I know an adopted child who is currently grappling with the pain of feeling rejected by her birth mom. This cuts deep to her identity and sense of value, threatening her sense of worth. As I was praying for her, I thought of Jesus, rejected and devalued by mankind.
He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Isaiah 53:3
This rejection had nothing to do with his actual worth. We know Jesus is worth more than anything on earth, exalted, perfect, so his rejection was not based on any kind of lack of value or inferiority! I pray that my friend will recognize that Jesus is there suffering rejection with her, and that she is infinitely valued with him.
