Letter to a True Friend

You are the most authentic person I know, and in being so, you bring glory to God.

God is the God of Truth, and you honor and glorify Him in your relentless pursuit of truth and in your relationship with Him.  You inspire me with your not-just-flat- but splat-on-your-face prayers before God.  I love how you do not hide behind platitudes and never take the easy way out, but always hold yourself and your family up before God in the crucible of His purifying fire.

One of the truths you do not avoid is that faith in God does not mean that you will ride through storms serenely sitting in your tranquil boat.  Praying for you, I had a picture of you in the current storm, not bobbing peacefully with a smile on your face, but smashed by waves, water forced up your nose and into your lungs, leaving you gasping and choking, but still clinging to the rope of your hope in the God of Truth.  And when your fingers grow numb and can’t cling any longer, you will find that rope tightly snug around your middle, holding you fast, keeping you from drowning.  And though now it rages, the storm will cease.

I remain confident of this:  I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Psalm 27:13

Knowing you makes my own rope stronger.  Thank you.  I love you!

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  Philippians 1:4-7
