I am very proud of my daughter. She demonstrates God’s heart for justice.
I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Psalm 140:12
After immersing herself in learning about rampant human rights abuses in the garment industry, she is working to raise awareness about the issue on her college campus. In addition to starting a student consortium, she’s been meeting with the president of her university to urge administrative support for the rights of the workers who make the items sold in the campus bookstore.
This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. Isaiah 56:1
While there has been progress, it has been frustratingly slow for her. Listening to her exasperation and encouraging her to remain positive, I was reminded of another aspect of God’s character, that He is patient. Her urgency to stop the injustices happening right now made me think of my current study of Revelation, where God asks His people to “wait a little longer.” He knows justice needs to be done, even more than we do, yet He is patient. It reminds me to be faithful to His character and to trust Him even as we work to obey Him.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
