Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3
Sometimes I study the word. Other times, I “sit in it,” allowing it to speak to me. Often, I will imagine the scene or develop a picture from scripture. These extended times dwelling on a passage or a picture allow me to soak up the truth more deeply and personally. I usually have my journal so I can write down what speaks to me.
These meditations arose from those times. I invite you to download them and sit with me, either on your own or with a group. Sit quietly, comfortably, with your eyes closed if that works for you. Rest in the quiet, letting your imagination develop the scene.
Dependence Devotional
I wrote this one about five years ago. At that time, praying was something I felt like I “should” do, but soon after, it become something I “get” to do.
Like a Child – Psalm 131 Meditation
I realized, as I write about intimacy with Jesus, that I hadn’t been experiencing it myself lately. I spent some time praying and this is what came of it. (My friend brings her infant daughter Madeleine to our Bible Study, where we vie for turns to hold her. She was the inspiration for this one. Feel free to change the name to the child of your choice!)
